Seven Up Charity
The Object of the CIO is:
For the public benefit, to help children and young people in Birmingham (and especially, but not exclusively, those who are disabled or who have mental health or other additional needs), in particular through providing inclusive play, youth and leisure time activities; so as to develop their capabilities, relationships and experience that they may grow as individuals, flourish and come to fulfil their potential as full and active members of society.
The Community Garden
Seven Up are fortunate enough to have access a slice of land adjoining the Rookery Children Centre which they have developed from scratch to call their own.
Opened in spring 2011 The Secret Garden offers a safe and secure space for some of Seven Up’s disabled children.
The best play spaces are always a theatre of possibilities.
About Us
Set up seven years ago by a group of local parents, who wanted to create play opportunities for children within the area. We pride ourselves on being inclusive and creative in adapting play facilities for children with additional needs; allowing parents valuable respite time.
We provide play, leisure and learning opportunities for disabled children, young people and their siblings at local venues in Handsworth Birmingham. We view play as crucial to a child’s development.

Partners
We believe that those children most at risk of social exclusion, particularly disabled children should have priority access to inclusive community play service. We believe that disabled children, young people and their families have the right to an ordinary life.
Our aim is to make Birmingham a more inclusive city by reaching out to those children and young people most in need through inclusive play and leisure opportunities.
Our partnership work with Hamilton School is multi dimensional; we deliver our Saturday play sessions from the site; we also run our afterschool club ’playing up’ from the school. The school have also provided us with generous storage space for our play resources. We have good open communication with the leadership team of the school this works well for signposting families to our services.
A key partner organisation from the beginning, we have developed an outdoor play space on the site ‘the secret garden’. All of our holiday playschemes are delivered from here.
Working with the Children Centre has been useful as the family Support workers know who we are, they are a point of referral for local parents and carers who may need our services.
Providing services for parents and carers to access local and national leisure, culture and the arts.
We have been working with ATHAC to develop a new ‘youth offer’ for disabled young people. Working with them has opened up new opportunities to the youth group, particularly around the arts.
CRICK GARDEN
We have a new partnership agreement in place with Crick Gardens CIC in Handsworth. During the At the COVID pandemic we struggled to find a suitable venue to deliver our youth holiday scheme. The Crick Garden is perfect as an outdoor secure space. At times the weather has been very challenging, so thanks the National Lottery Community Fund we have been able to install a ‘garden room’ – an all-weather enclosed space the compliments the work we do on the site with young people.
The Garden Room is available to hire to other community groups.
